Introduction
There is speculation that NVIDIA will release their GeForce RTX 2060 12GB product less than two weeks away. Videocardz first reported this, carrying much of the same internals as the 2060 SUPER but with changes to its memory configuration. This updated version of the previously released RTX 2060 will be released globally, unlike the 2060 Super which was only in certain markets.
Rumored Specs
The RTX 2060 12GB uses a TU106 GPU on a 12nm node. This card will feature a whopping 2176 CUDA cores, as well as 136 Tensor. On top of that, there will be 64 RT cores on the card. As rumored, the RTX 3050 TI / 3050 cards underperformed compared to a 2060 12GB model. This card will use the same GPU on the 2060 super, but with updated elements to its memory. It will retain a 192-bit bus, but will have 12 GB GDDR6 memory with a total bandwidth of 336GB/s. With a TDP of 184W, it performs similar to the previously released RTX 2060 SUPER.
Release Date
It is rumored that this card will be released on December 7th, 2021. It will be positioned as a cheaper alternative to the RTX 3060, and likely bring more availability along with it. Although raytracing performance will be lower when compared to the 3060, price to performance ratio will likely be improved.
One of the reasons this card may be getting produced is supply chain constraints featuring the 30 series cards, but that is only speculation.
Conclusion
In the end, I believe that the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB is a strong product to release at this time. It will likely bring increased availability of solid GPUs for MSRP, and we may see more availability of 20 series cards for the next few months (to year), over 30 series.
